Childcare Summit, Big Day Out, Climate Change and Gaza rally

A discussion on the future of childcare in Australia will be taking place at the Sol Green Community Centre in Port Phillip on Wednesday 21 January between 1 and 5 pm. I will be presenting ideas about the role of local government in childcare and possibilities for the future. Senator Sarah Hanson-Young and Colleen Hartland, MLC will be among the speakers.

All interested community members are welcome to attend. Please contact me on for more details.

The Big Day Out will again be held at the Flemington racecourse on Australia Day (Sat Jan 26) this year. Council is working closely with the organisers to try to minimise the disruption to residents. There is a RESIDENT HOTLINE that residents can call if they have concerns or queries - 9372 5572. This number will be staffed during office hours before the event and from 6am on 26 January.

I am keen to hear what residents are doing to reduce their carbon emissions or their ecological footprint. Please email me on I will soon be organising a community forum on climate change action so watch out for more details.

There is a rally at the State Library at 2pm this Sunday January 18 calling for an immediate peaceful resolution in Gaza. For more information visit

Back for another four-year term!

Thanks to support from all of you, my constituents, during the recently held council elections, I am back as a Moonee Valley councillor until 2012. During the next four years I hope we can continue to improve services and amenities for South Ward.

Some of the issues I particularly look forward to resolving are:
- implementing more efficient street lighting
- improving public recycling
- installing water tanks and harvesting storm water
- improving community services for children, older people and
- making improvements to Racecourse Rd through the Structure

Keeping in touch
Going forward, I will be using this site to communicate with constituents. Look out for weekly updates that will include information on local issues, updates on Council decisions and links to important websites.

Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any suggestions for other ways I can continue to improve my communication with the local community.

Making requests
If there is a local issue that is bothering you, or if you have not had a timely response to a request, please feel free to email or call me. Although I always do my best to keep up with correspondence, some matters do take a little time and some requests are easier than others to fulfill - so I welcome friendly reminders!

Thanks again for your overwhelming support. I look forward to working with you in 2009 and beyond.
